Janis Joplin

When I first heard about the rumored coupling between Janis Joplin and Peter Tork from someone, I was unsure. I mean what would wild and crazy Janis Joplin want with some dude in the Monkees? It just didn't seem to fit. But then I picked up the book 'Love, Janis', by Janis' sister, and read the following:

Peter Tork sent her roses on her birthday. Hmm. I find it odd that many people sent her roses that night, yet she only mentions Peter by name. Did she mean that her and Peter had champange and birthday cake? I'm not so sure.

Then Ladytork told me the following bit of information:

"I came across this bit, Before Janis was to go on the Ed Sullivan Show, The Monkees sent her four dozen red roses with card, Best Luck-The Monkees. I read this in the Chicago Sun Times when they were reviewing the play "Love Janis""

Interesting.

LadyTork read Joel Selvin's book, "Summer of Love", which all but confirmed the Peter/Janis relationship:

"Joplin still enjoyed male companionship and her romantic---or at least sexual---liaisons spanned a wide range from a hell's angel known as Freewheelin' Frank TO Monkee Peter Tork TO Buffalo Springfield member, Stephen Stills."

Well, for the most part Janis had good taste in men.

So there ya go folks, Peter Tork got it on with Janis Joplin. You learn SO MUCH from this site, don't ya?

Groovy, man
