Linda Haines Jones

Linda Haines was the first wife of Davy Jones and was one of the best kept secrets in Hollywood. Even today, not much is known on Linda, mainly because she was never featured in magazines and fans never knew she existed until long after her and Davy had married. But I will try to do my best to fill in the holes in Linda's life.

Dixie Linda Haines was born in the 1940s. I think. Maybe she was born in Hawaii, since that's where she and Davy met. All I know, is that Davy and Linda met in December 1966 when The Monkees performed their first concert in Hawaii on December 3. At the time, Linda was working as a fashion designer, and once Linda caught the eye of Davy, the dark, brunette beauty captured his heart. Seriously. I read somewhere that he bawled his eyes out on the plane because he didn't want to leave her in Hawaii cos he loved her so much. Awww.

But things did not start out promising. After the concert, Linda began dating Davy's best friend-stand-in-tour manager David Pearl, and why not? David Pearl was a total studmuffin. But obviously Davy took it hard, I mean come on, his BEST FRIEND dating this girl he's lusting after. Not good.

David and Linda dated for nearly a year, during the second season of their tv show. Then right after they broke up, Davy and Linda began hanging out together, and obviously things morphed from friendship into a total lustfest. Linda obviously left Hawaii to come live with Davy and become part of his clique of the Hollywood/Music "in" crowd. Apparently Davy and Linda used to hang out a lot with Donovan. Cool.

Linda and Davy were much more conservative than pals Micky/Sammy and Peter/Reine. Peter always invited Linda & Davy to his naked pool parties at his infamous Hollywood Hills digs, and as Linda explains in the E! True Hollywood Story, her and Davy were always a bit embarassed around all of the naked hippies because they weren't like that.

Nevertheless, they were obviously getting it on because their first daughter Talia Elizabeth Jones was born in early October 1968. Unlike the reports from the teenybopper magazines, Linda and Davy WERE NOT married at the time (Raybert claimed they were because in those days having a child out of wedlock was very much frowned upon). But Linda and Davy put it in writing on Halloween 1968 (spooky).

Once Monkee fans caught the news of the most popular Monkee being married with a child, the band's fame went quickly downhill. And like the rest of the guys, Davy suddenly had to adjust to being a former teen idol. This sudden loss of fame and fortune was not a good situation for the newlyweds, either, and their marriage was far from perfect..Davy mentions in his autobio how he and Linda should have taken longer to get to know eachother before getting married, and how they weren't always good at communicating with one another. Despite whatever problems they did have, they remained married until 1975, while Davy was touring in Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart, mainly because Davy was on the road a lot and didn't spend enough time with Linda and their children (they had another daughter in the early 70s named Sarah Lee).

But Davy and Linda are friends now. I have no idea what she's up to these days, but she is featured on the E! True Hollywood Story if anyone wants to see what she looks like now.

To me, Linda seems real cool. She cracks me up in the True Hollywood Story, especially when she describes Tork's pool parties. Hilarious stuff, folks.
