Sally Field
Sally Field was born Sally Mahoney on November 6, 1946 in Pasadena, California to actor parents. She obviously had acting in her blood, and in 1965, she got the lead in the TV Show "Gidget". This lasted for nearly two years before it was cancelled because the teen was getting a bit too old for the Gidget character.
In 1967, Sally moved on to star in the television show "The Flying Nun" which was made by Screen Gems. Screen Gems was also the company that made the Monkees television show. What a coincidence.
At any rate, Sally was on the same studio lot as the Monkees day in and day out, and it was through that, that she became close with Davy Jones.
But how close? Well, it seems to be different with each source. According to Davy they were "close friends", whatever that means. But if you read between the lines, you can probably assume that they were seeing eachother whenever Davy wasn't seeing Deana Martin or Lulu or the other girls he was dating (what a player). There are many adorable pictures of Davy and Sally, so I suspect they did have a little "thing" going on. She apparently also was "friends" with Peter, as i've seen plenty of pictures of them looking "cozy".
Teen Magazines made a big deal out of the Sally/Davy pairing, showing them in cute, cuddly pictures and mentioning the latest goings-on between them. It's safe to say that Sally & Davy were "friends" during the second season of The Monkees T.V Show, and broke up perhaps in late 1967 once he hooked up with Linda, and once she started seriously dating her childhood sweetheart (and first husband) Steve Craig.
"The Flying Nun" lasted for three years and in 1970, it was time for Sally to transform from a cute, girl next door, into a leading lady. And wheras Davy's career halted in 1970, Sally's acting career blossomed. She won an Emmy in 1976 for "Sybil", an Oscar in 1979 for "Norma Rae" & in 1984 for "Places in the Heart" (at the ceremonies she gave the famous line "you like me, you really like me"). She has appeared in such huge movies as "Smokey & The Bandit", "Steel Magnolias", "Soapdish", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "Forrest Gump", "Eye for an Eye", and has recently directed her first film "Beautiful" with Minnie Driver and that really annoying Pepsi girl.
Besides Davy, Sally has also been linked with songwriter Jimmy Webb, Burt Reynolds (ick), and even dated Monkee creator Bob Rafelson for a bit.
And I wonder if Davy ever wonders why he ever let her go?
you like me, you really like me!
